💪Protein & Nutrition Breakdown

Fish is an exceptionally lean protein source rich in omega-3 fatty acids, which play a role in reducing exercise-induced inflammation and supporting recovery. It digests quickly, making it an excellent choice around workouts. Each serving of Peruvian Fish Ceviche delivers 28g of protein at 260 calories — that's 9 calories per gram of protein, making it one of the more efficient protein sources on this site. Protein accounts for roughly 43% of total calories in this dish. The 20g of carbohydrates per serving provide energy for training, making this a well-rounded meal both pre- and post-workout. The 8g of fat primarily comes from the cooking method and protein source itself, keeping the overall calorie density low.

🥡Meal Prep & Storage

Ceviche is a fresh dish best enjoyed within 2 hours of preparation. The lime juice 'cooks' the fish through acid, but the texture continues to change and deteriorates quickly — leftovers become overly cured and mushy. If you must store it, keep in a sealed container in the fridge for up to 24 hours maximum. Never freeze ceviche — the raw fish texture will be ruined. If prepping for a group, prep all ingredients in advance and squeeze the lime juice 20–30 minutes before serving for peak freshness.

💡 Tips & Notes

  • •Only use sushi-grade fresh fish.
  • •The acid 'cooks' the fish — timing is everything.
  • •Serve within 30 minutes for best texture.

Variations

  • →Use shrimp instead.
  • →Add mango for tropical twist.
  • →Use coconut milk for leche de tigre.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Peruvian Fish Ceviche best served fresh?

Absolutely. Serve within 30 minutes of assembly. The acid continues to "cook" the fish, making it tough and chalky if left too long.

Can I substitute a different type of fish?

Yes — any firm-fleshed fish works. For flaky white fish recipes, try cod, halibut, or mahi-mahi. For salmon recipes, try arctic char or steelhead trout.

Is Peruvian Fish Ceviche beginner-friendly?

Yes! This is a straightforward recipe with common ingredients and simple techniques. Follow the steps in order and you'll have great results even if you're new to cooking.
